Exciting things are happening in
  the West Valley!

In 1998, John F. Long and other West Valley community leaders conceived the idea of transforming 42-miles of the Agua Fria and New Rivers into a multi-use recreational area offering multi-modal access to employment, retail, entertainment and transportation centers.

The West Valley Recreation Corridor is unique in its need for collaoration between seven cities, Maricopa County, and various private entities.  At completion, the benefits for all involved are endless...

  • Recreation and open space promoted through miles of multi-modal, non-motorized trails for pedestrians, equestrians and bikers.
  • Sustainable communities supported through groundwater recharge, conservation of riparian river habitat and opportunities for environmental and historical education.
  • Economic development driven by the opportunity for high-quality commercial and residential development and enhanced property values.

The Agua Fria Watercourse Master Plan, developed by the Flood Control Distirct of Maricopa County, identifies potential uses of the river that are compatible with its primary function of floodwater conveyance opening up new uses for the land that would be raised out of the existing floodplain for both recreation and development.

The Friends of the West Valley Recreation Corridor (WVRC) is dedicated to serving as a catalyst for bringing this landmark amenity to reality!
